OBJECTIVE OF SELF
To develop more participative local communities, using innovative, cooperative (business) models
for public-private partnership and the joint provision of services and (formerly public) tasks.
OUTLINE OF PROJECT IDEA
In the now finalised INTERREG IVB North Sea Region (NSR)-project MP4, the main focus was on place-keeping:
long-term maintenance and management of (public) areas / spaces to ensure that the social, environmental
and economic quality and benefits can be enjoyed by future generations.
Presenting innovative (governance, community) workforms
on a cooperative basis, including place-keeping and shared space, leading to a transfer of tasks from public to private and/or
new shared (public-private) services and activities.
Key principle in place-keeping is the inclusion of local residents in these activities and in similar (public) activities and services, that are now (only) the domain of public authorities, taking
co-responsibility in these tasks.
The project SELF builds on the earlier experiences of MP4, in that the principle of Place-keeping is applied on other domains and (new, cooperative) organisation forms are sought and applied to develop and deliver these services and activities.
